Contact Ariel

Ariel Bloomer ’12 – Admission Intern

Ariel is a senior from Portland, Oregon, majoring in creative writing: fiction (a self-designed major) with minors in European Studies and Religious Studies. This past spring, Ariel studied European Culture & History in Copenhagen, Denmark, where she lived with a host-family, and received the honor of an Intercultural Leadership Award from the Danish Institute of Study Abroad. This past summer, after returning from her European exploration, she decided to see more of her own country and drove 12,000 miles through 34 states, visiting 8 national parks and 6 UNESCO World Heritage sites. During her time at Scripps, she has worked for the Tiernan Field House as a Customer Service Associate; for the Malott Commons Office, a major hub of event-planning on campus, as a Programming intern, where she mingled with and introduced speakers like Elizabeth Gilbert (Eat, Pray, Love); and as a summer intern for the Office of Admission. Ariel has also been a part of Cultivating Dreams, a student-run non-profit which oversees an organic garden inside the California Institute for Women, a southern California women’s prison. She is a staff writer for voice, the Scripps student newspaper, and is the coordinator and editor for the Off-Campus Study Student Blog. A self-proclaimed nerd, she enjoys Lord of the Rings marathons and screenings of shows like Firefly and Doctor Who with the Get Your Nerd On student club. One of Ariel’s favorite classes has been Arts & Culture Review Writing with Kimberly Drake, which included a unit on travel writing and a blind chocolate taste test. For thesis, Ariel plans to write a young adult historical fiction novel.
